Legend of Zelda to Come to the Big Screen

Legend of Zelda to Come to the Big Screen

Yesterday, Nintendo and SONY announced plans to bring Shigeru Miyamoto’s masterpiece, The Legend of Zelda, to the Big Screen. Miyamoto and Avi Arad, who produced the latest round of Spider-Men, will produce the movie. Wes Ball, director of The Maze Runner, has been signed to direct.

The movie will probably take as much time to produce as one of Zelda’s installments.

It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.

Shigeru Miyamoto

Miyamoto and Arad have been working on the film and Nintendo is intimately involved with its production. Writing to his fans on Twitter/X, Miyamoto told them to be patient, and it will take some time.

The Legend of Zelda is Nintendo’s second most popular franchise having sold 150 million copies since the original, gold-plated cartridge hit Christmas shelves in 1986. The most recent installment, Tears of the Kingdom sold 10 million copies in 3 days.

A Follow Up After Mario

Nintendo is banking on cinema gold after the Super Mario Brothers movie’s warm reception. The Marios made over $1 billion and became one of the highest grossing and memed films.

This will be the movie industry’s first attempt at making a Zelda movie. Netflix was toying with the idea of a Legend of Zelda series in 2015, but didn’t move forward with it.

No cast has been announced, yet. The ongoing actors strike is entering its fourth month in November and doesn’t seem to be ending soon.
