Endorsement: Kamala Harris for President of the United States of America

It shouldn’t be this hard.

We are an alternative media outlet for you. Most of our interests and time are focused on the weird convergence of technology, style, and food. We’ve avoided direct political reporting and served to cover politics when our core focus was impacted by national or foreign policy.

However, on the cusp of an election that really shouldn’t be this close. As a national media organization, we couldn’t stand on the technology sidelines and watch a candidate overtly campaign on destroying the principles and systems that have allowed our nation to flourish.

We decided not to play it safe.

To do so would be cowardly. Some outlets say Democracy Dies in Darkness. In reality, Democracy dies in broad daylight when news organizations, tastemakers, and speakers of truth to power operate in fear of authoritarians and despots who make an enemy of anyone who disagrees with them. Our news organization isn’t tied to government contracts or beholden to billionaire bros. We report what we see and share how we see it. We have been opinionated on everything we report and have decided to be opinionated on what we see now.

We endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States. As Americans who benefit from an open society where we can share information and opinions without fear from government reprisal there is no other responsible choice to vote for in the 2024 election.

Maya Angelo said, “when someone shows you who there are the first time, believe them.” Donald J. Trump showed us who he is the first time in 2016. It’s hard for us to understand how anyone who takes their republic seriously is willing to vote for someone who wants to use the military against, “the enemy within,” chooses to be represented by agents and speakers who call American homelands garbage and seek to tear down institutions that represent voices of the people and run America as a dictator.

Believe what you want about the founders, that’s not what they had in mind when creating, “a more perfect union.”

For those who criticize Kamala Harris because she isn’t a perfect candidate, her policy positions shifted since 2016, or she hasn’t shared many policy proposals, let’s be real and admit you don’t like her for a myriad of reasons.

For those who criticize Kamala Harris for not ending the genocide in Gaza and seek to punish her campaign by not voting, let’s end the intellectual dishonesty. She purposefully hasn’t shared deterministic policy proposals on Israel, and we know for sure the other candidate is not for ending Israel’s campaign at all. Any serious candidate knows it’s a delicate dance to be pro-Palestinian and at the same time not being labeled antisemitic. Our politics is overly polarized beyond real reasoning to examine the nuances in Israeli-Palestinian affairs, and anyone suggesting easy solutions is unserious.

As a small shop, we’re certain to receive criticism because we don’t have millions of subscribers and billions of dollars of ad revenue at stake. We don’t, but someone must point out the obvious; Donald Trump is not a good option for President. Based on the facts alone this is the responsible conclusion.

It’s hard to admit it, and it’s a shame to be fearful of it, but half the country isn’t serious about its republic. They would rather experience reductions in rights, reductions in privileges, and reductions in progress in support of maintaining a supremacy that has proved harmful for most Americans.
