AI FashioN Week Ushers New Era of Design and AI Models

We took a short hiatus from AI news only to return with Google’s rollout of Bard and AI-ifying all of its products.

AI Fashion Week took place on April 20th and 21st. Over 400 design submissions were sent to judges with a final presentation of 10 designers showcasing ready to wear designs using generative technologies.

24 screens at Spring Studios in SoHo showcased 50 AI generated collections. The fashion show was totally generative featuring models wearing clothes in Mediterranean villages or the desert.

The event was crafted by fashion studio, Maison Meta. Cyril Foiret, Maison Meta’s creative director, said AI Fashion Week is a way bridge the gap between physical and digital creativity.

AI may bring about a new era of fashion enabling new creators to join the design ranks. Computers aren’t the ones doing the designs. You still need talent, imagination, and the will to create.

AI Fashion Week also kicked off a new controversy.

Levi Strauss and Co., Levi’s, announced plans to use AI models for its jeans. They want to, “supplement its real models with hyper-realistic virtual models next.” Levi’s says AI models will help the company showcase how its products look and fit on the various ages, sizes, and skin tones of their customers.

They’ll probably begin working with the AI modeling agency, Lalaland.ai. It’s not hard to understand why this move is controversial. It looks like Levi’s is just trying to save a buck.
