Each week, I’ll highlight an app, game, device, tool, or something tech you can use for coping while being quarantined from COVID-19.
I draw and sketch a lot, even though I have no business drawing and sketching. Even though I work in tech, I spend a lot of time jotting down my thoughts and ideas on paper.
For my first tech idea, I’m suggesting you try out the drawing program, Procreate by Savage Interactive. It’s a phenomenally easy to use iOS app for doodling, sketching, and making works of art. My 9-year old swears by it, and was one of the things she asked Santa for last Christmas. What’s really appealing about Procreate is its versatility between a simple styled Paint for your iPad app, and a fully capable artistic tool.
The kid got a knockoff Apple Pencil with Procreate last Christmas and I found myself lying in bed wanting to sketch some software design ideas, but have the freedom of quickly erasing or moving things around. Actions that aren’t easy using a pen and paper. So, I asked the kid for her pen and used it with my 6th generation iPad.
I enjoyed fooling around with Procreate. I’d like to think all of my software and system designs are works of engineering art, but my lines aren’t straight and I’m going for ideation not attractiveness.
If you’re a doodler or artist looking for a digital canvas, give Procreate a try. At $9.99 it’s a great price for a tool that’s fully engineered and supported.
