Wozniak Calls for AI Regulation Against Scammers

One of the tech industry’s most beloved and prolific figures warned of more serious scams using AI.

In an interview with BBC, Steve Wozniak warned AI may make scams harder to spot. He called for more AI regulation stating AI generated content should be clearly labeled.

Wozniak leveled many of his warnings at large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT which can generate intelligent reading text that can contain misinformation. With companies rushing to embed AI, specifically LLMs, into just about every application scammers have a wide playing field to abuse users using chatbots and conversational assistants.

The Woz told BBC, “we can’t stop technology,” but it’s important to prepare and educate people for what’s to come. Bringing more awareness can help people protect themselves from accidentally divulging personal and private information to bot scammers.

We have to be brave out here. It’s going to be a challenging time. The Woz’s words are prescient. The US Senate is bringing OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman in for a hearing title, the Oversight of AI.
