Ohhhhh, look at you GenXers complaining about being glued to your phones and not doing anything about it.
GenZers, Zennials, or those children aged 8 to 23 have decided to get out of the app rat race and are dumping their smartphones.
The group has ironically raced to TikTok (and not Facebook) lamenting how their phones are controlling their lives and ruining their social interactions. Zennials are now joining the jitterbug set and purchasing old flip phones by the ten thousands.
A great article in the Wall Street Journal shares the plight of Zennials who are, “slaves to their phones,” and are, “robots who keep scrolling and scrolling…”
Flip Phones Are Popular
Nokia sells tens of thousands of phones per month and apparently GenZers aren’t the only ones buying them. Most of these new flip phones have color screens and basic web browsing capabilities, but don’t support apps. Uhh, and no GPS.
While Jitterbug set is trying to be hip and trendy, teenagers and 20-somethings are opting to be geriatrics. What are we headed towards?
We all know someone who refused to upgrade and still carries around a flip. It could be your aunt or uncle, your mom or dad, or US Senator Chuck Schumer.
Maybe one day, when I’m old gray, I’ll opt for a simpler device. Right now, Candy Crush and TikTok are too much of a vice.
